Typographic Sequence
The 4-Panel Typographic Sequence introduced basic principles of composition, established an awareness of the relationship between form and space, and introduced narrative.
Research
The first step was selecting a letterform and typeface, which involved comparing and contrasting the characteristics of different typographic families. This process focused on the serifs, weights, and postures of each typeface, all while using the Fibonacci sequence of proportions as a guiding principle.
Panel Sketches and Exploration
Sketching each panel helped quickly generate ideas and better understand the chosen letterform, focusing on the interplay between negative and positive spaces. The process was divided into four panels, each with a distinct focus: the first panel explored abstraction, which then led to the second panel's partial abstraction. Building on that, the third panel emphasized identity, followed by the fourth panel's full reveal of the letterform.
Digital Translations
My sketches were then digitized in Illustrator. This allowed for further exploration and manipulation of the chosen letterform and typeface, providing a clearer understanding of their forms. Transforming quick sketches into more refined and polished iterations made it easier to decide on the best direction for achieving an exceptional final result.
Refinements and Addition of Text
The final phase focused on refining the implementation of the type, with close attention to detail. The fully revealed letterform and type were thoughtfully integrated, ensuring a harmonious placement within their environment. After narrowing down the digital sketches, a few more iterations were made. The final outcome emerged through a process of continuous ideation and iteration.

This print was created to display a typographic sequence, drawing inspiration from Michael Bierut's designs for Saks Fifth Avenue.
